Combating compromised health and well-being due to this COVID-19 working environment will need to be the focus of many employers this fall if they wish to keep working their way effectively through this uncertain climate. Pre-pandemic, many Canadian workers sought a flexible schedule that would allow for good work–life balance, but just over half of workers had this option (Graham Lowe Group). Over the last few months we have seen employees report an increase in stress and more anxiety, loneliness and burnout as a result of working from home long-term in isolation.

Emerging trends are showing that the new burnout is driven by uncertainty and fear of job loss; an inevitable blurring of work/life balance and isolation. Many are putting in longer hours to make themselves 'indispensable' in an attempt to secure their position. My Journey

Old Ways

I have just completed my 12 Weeks journey and wanted to share my experience so others can truly understand the power of this program.

Like many of you during COVID I was binge eating foods that I knew weren't good for me, my exercise was basically moving from the couch to the fridge and back again… My alcohol consumption was at an all time high because I felt like what else was there to do. I have been yo-yoing with my body weight since I can remember. If I had a goal to lose weight for some event I could achieve it but never maintain it. Just jumping from one fad to the next. I am naturally curvy and I don't hate that but I found that eating poorly was really affecting my mental health.

One day at an all time low I decided I was ready to make a change. I came across 12 Weeks to Wellness as a possible option, so I decided to give it a go.

Simply put, being mindful is being aware, and being relaxed is to be free of tension.

Being mindful is to become aware of how you are feeling physically, emotionally, mentally, and increasing awareness of your environment. Being mindful is tuning in to how you are experiencing the present moment and reserving judgment. That might mean becoming aware that you are pretty chilled out, or the exact opposite, maybe you're all revved up!

Relaxation is a whole different thing. Relaxation is the state of being free from tension. This could be physically or mentally.

Walking Meditation

Walking Meditation

Many of us want to bring spirituality into our lives but don't know where to begin. Or we think we have to sit still in silent meditation for an hour each day in order to be "spiritual." Maybe you are you one of those who think yoga is a waste of time….with your crazy work schedule, you don't have much time to exercise and so you feel like you need to get the most "bang for your buck" and yoga just doesn't cut it for you.

Did you know that, walking is a great way to integrate mindfulness into your everyday life and has been used as a meditation practice for thousands of years?
